Little Miss Independent

My little Jena is so independent. She loves to do EVERYTHING by herself. She is so independent that it drives me a little crazy sometimes. If I have done something for her, she will go back and re-do it, just so that she can do it by herself. She will take off clothes, shoes, socks, and then put them back on again just to do it by herself. She will get out of the car and then climb back in just so she can climb in all by herself. It even goes as far as carrying her breakfast to the table. If I have already set her plate and cup on the table before she gets there, she will take it back over to the counter, set it down, and pick it back up again and walk to the table....just so she can do it. She is such a silly girl.
Here is our newest independent adventure.....Making PB & J. She wants to make her own sandwiches now. Oh well...I guess it doesn't matter if they're pretty and neat or not. She still likes how they taste.
Here she is hard at work "frosting" her bread.

No Jimmer

For the longest time, Kevin has been trying to convince me to name our next little boy Jimmer. That's right...Jimmer. As in Jimmer Fredette from BYU's basketball team. Well, there will be no Jimmer for at least another couple years. (Or if I have any say, there will never be a Jimmer.) We are expecting a little girl at the end of July and we are so excited!!!
Kevin wasn't able to make it to the ultrasound with me, so Jena came with me instead. I told her that the doctor was going to tell us if she would have a brother or a sister, and she insisted on having a baby sister. Kevin and I tried to prepare her before the appointment to be happy with either, but she kept on insisting that she wanted a sister. She was so happy that it really is a girl. She told me more than once in that car on the way home that it was just what she wanted.

Jena's scripture

One of our "selling points" of Sunbeams to Jena was getting to talk in the microphone. She has asked during sacrament meeting before if she could talk in the microphone. So, when she was scared to go to Sunbeams at the beginning of the year, we let her know that she would get a turn sometime to talk in the microphone in Primary. Every week she would come home and let us know, "I didn't get to talk in the microphone today, Mom." or "That lady talked on the microphone, but I didn't get a turn." Finally, she was asked to give the scripture in Primary. She was so excited. "I waited so longer for my turn and I finally get to talk in the microphone."

Now, if it was any other child, I probably wouldn't have even thought to have them memorize a scripture. I probably would have had them practice it a few times, and then I would be up there with them to whisper in their ear. But, Jena....well, she just has this knack for remembering things. She has the best memory. We will be driving in the car and she will start telling me a story and it will be from something that happened months, or even a year ago.

So we worked on it during the week, and she totally had it memorized. I was worried that when the day actually came, she would get "stage fright" and not go through with it. But, nope, she showed us. She went up to the podium all by herself (Kevin and I stayed in the back) and she said her scripture all by herself. I was so proud! She did such a good job. I had to have her say it for me on video when we got home so I can always remember how cute she did it.

You would never have guessed from this picture that just minutes before he was screaming and blood was streaming down his face...
Drey got his first ever shiner last week. This picture doesn't really show it very well, but it's on his left eye. He was playing down by our tv and just happened to lose his balance and hit his eye on our entertainment center. Poor kid! I thought he might need stitches, but when everything calmed down and we got it all cleaned up, it really wasn't as bad as I thought.
I just couldn't get over how cute he smiled for me in this picture. He never does this!!!
